About me
Hi. I’m Mark Walker, a Resident in Counseling at Neutral Ground Counseling Group® in Fairfax, Virginia.
Before becoming a counselor, I practiced as an attorney and later worked as a high school teacher at an alternative school supporting youth facing behavioral and emotional challenges. Those experiences shaped my understanding of how people navigate stress, expectations, and difficult life circumstances.
My goal in therapy is to provide a thoughtful and supportive space where clients can explore their experiences, better understand themselves, and begin making meaningful changes in their lives.
In my spare time I enjoy whitewater kayaking, mountain biking, skiing, and hiking.

My Approach to Therapy
Clinical Training and Supervision
I provide individual therapy for teens (12+), young adults, and adults. Many people come to therapy when they are feeling overwhelmed, stuck, or trying to make sense of difficult experiences. Therapy offers a space to explore what has been challenging and begin developing new ways of responding.
Clients often seek therapy with me for support with:
• anxiety and chronic stress
• depression
• trauma and difficult life experiences
• life transitions
• relationship and family challenges
My approach to counseling is grounded in building a collaborative and respectful therapeutic relationship. Therapy works best when clients feel safe enough to speak openly about their experiences.
My work is informed by humanistic therapy and Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT). Together, we explore emotional patterns, deepen self-understanding, and develop healthier ways of responding to difficult situations.
As a Resident-in-Counseling, Mark is completing the supervised clinical hours required for independent licensure in Virginia.
At Neutral Ground Counseling Group, residents receive ongoing supervision from Sally Harney, Ph.D., LPC, NCC, ACS, ensuring thoughtful clinical guidance and high-quality care.
Therapy available online and in-person throughout Virginia.
